A former Ballon d’Or ready to hand over his trophy to Lewandowski if he was not elected

The Bayern Munich and Poland striker scored goals again in 2021, after an exceptional year in 2020 where many felt he was the worthy winner after scoring 55 goals in Bayern Munich’s treble.

Despite winning the FIFA Best Player Award, the Ballon d’Or was removed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Lewandowski did not receive recognition despite being the overwhelming favorite.

He is among the main candidates this year, alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jorginho.

Former Spanish footballer Suarez, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1960 ahead of Ferenc Puskas, pleads for Lewandowski to finally get his hands on the France Football trophy.

Suarez told Carrusel Deportivo: “Give the Ballon d’Or to Lewandowski, damn it! Otherwise, I’ll give you mine!”

Lewandowski broke Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga scoring record earlier this year and although he faces stiff competition for the Ballon d’Or, he believes his “achievements speak for themselves”.
