FC Barcelona conceded a draw against Celta after leading by three goals. And also recorded the defection of Ansu Fati.
After three games without a win, FC Barcelona thought to renew success in La Liga this Saturday. In vain. Traveling to Celta Vigo, the Catalans let slip a victory that stretched out their arms to them. They led by three goals at the break, before collapsing completely in the second half and conceding a draw. Their new coach Xavi, who officially signed up with the club this morning, had to measure the extent of the work that awaits him on the Camp Nou side.
Ansu Fati, the lightening and then the darkness
Ronald Koeman’s replacement couldn’t be happy with what he did. And, he also had something to look down on when he saw the one who is supposed to lead his attack, in this case Ansu Fati, come out with an injury. The number 10 blaugrana suffered a hamstring blow and had to leave his own prematurely. The first echoes concerning him are not really reassuring since a tear is feared. He should miss at least a month of competition and join the club infirmary Dembélé, Aguero and Braithwaite.
Before leaving, Ansu Fati still had time to shine and put his training on the right track. It was he who opened the scoring after 5 minutes of play. In an almost closed angle, he found the window with a magnificent coiled shot. It was his fifth goal in as many starts this season. A balance sheet that makes you regret even more its next unavailability.
In the matches following the international break, Barça may rely on their midfielders to score goals. An interesting solution especially if Sergio Busquets starts to shake the nets. The Spain international hit the mark in the 18th minute with a nice halfway shot at the entrance to the box. An achievement that preceded that of Memphis Depay, scorer on a service from Jordi Alba (34th).
And Barça collapsed
At the break, Barça led 3-0. We thought the case was folded but it was to forget the current fragility of this team and its many defensive gaps. In the second half, the visitors were completely unrecognizable, completely losing the thread of the game. Iago Aspas (52nd) and Nolito (74th) took the opportunity to revive the suspense. The last quarter of an hour was then unbreathable for the Catalans. They held the victory before giving in on the last offensive of the Galicians and an uncrossed strike from Aspas. We were then playing the 96th minute. An improbable outcome and which illustrates how much this Barça has become.
At the end of the day, the results of the evening for the people of Barcelona are disappointing. Two new points abandoned, content still as disturbing and especially the loss of Ansu Fati. Good luck to Xavi.
