The Pharaohs snatched their qualification for the play-offs on Friday in a draw in Angola. Gabon therefore sees its hopes for the World Cup in Qatar disappear. Algeria has made short work of Djibouti for its part, but will have to beware Sunday of Burkina Faso, which could overtake it in extremis if successful.

And a new qualifier for the 3e round of the qualifiers for the Africa zone for the 2022 World Cup! Egypt, by snatching the draw against Angola, composted its ticket for the next round, while Algeria remains under threat from Burkina Faso

As a reminder, the first in each of the qualifying groups are qualified for a third round where, in a two-way confrontation, they will face another winner for a place in the finals of the 2022 World Cup.

Group A: Algeria puts Burkina Faso up against the wall

Opposed to Djibouti in a match relocated to Cairo, Algeria made the powder speak and enforced its status as African champion. Djamel Belmadi’s men slapped the Red Sea Sharks in the face, inflicting a heavy 4-0 defeat.

Despite an exemplary journey of four wins and a draw, the Algerians are however still not guaranteed to be at 3e round of the World Cup qualifiers. The fault in Burkina Faso: if they conceded a draw against Niger, the Stallions are still hanging on to the Fennecs.

The match on Tuesday, November 16, in Blida, will be a small “final”. Algeria will qualify in the event of a win or a draw. Burkina Faso will only qualify by achieving the feat of beating Fennecs, who have not experienced defeat for 32 matches.

Group F: Egypt scares but goes to 3e tour

The Pharaohs almost fell into the Angolan trap. Although last and out of the race for a qualification, they presented a great challenge to the Egyptians. They even took the lead thanks to a goal from Hélder Costa and a penalty converted by M’Bala Nzola.

However, the Pharaohs were able to show their resources and equalized thanks to Mohamed Elneny on a cross from the inevitable Mo Salah. Then Akram Tawfik, at fault on the conceded penalty, scored the goal of the equalizer, synonymous with qualification.

This draw buried the hopes of the Panthers of Gabon, yet winners against Libya (1-0), who needed an Egyptian misstep to afford a “final” against Egypt for the lead of the group.

Group I: untouchable Morocco

In Group I, already settled by the qualification of Morocco, the Atlas Lions have honored their status as an invincible team. They beat Sudan 3 to 0 and remain the only team to have won all their matches in these qualifiers in the Africa zone. At the same time, the last two residents of the group, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, made a dismal 0-0 in Conakry.
