Arsenal: Granit Xhaka absent until Christmas

Affected by the ligament of the knee after the match against Tottenham, Xhaka will be out for the next three months.

Arsenal have suffered a heavy blow when they learn that Granit Xhaka will be sidelined with a knee problem.

Xhaka has been a key man under Mikel Arteta, and helped the Gunners turn the tide at the start of the season with a series of positive performances, including in their 3-1 victory over north London rivals Tottenham on Last weekend.

Sadly, the 29-year-old also suffered a serious injury in that encounter and will now be unavailable until Christmas, but Arsenal claim he won’t need surgery.

A statement on the Arsenal website states: “Following his right knee injury in Sunday’s game against Tottenham, exams and scans confirmed that Granit Xhaka sustained a major injury to the internal ligament in his knee.

“A specialist consultation took place in London on Tuesday evening and determined that Granit does not need surgery. Granit’s recovery and rehabilitation program will begin immediately and we hope it will be back in action in about three months.

“Everyone at the club will now be supporting and working hard with Granit to get him back on the pitch as quickly as possible.”

The Switzerland international was surprised by Lucas Moura’s downfall following a tackle from Thomas Partey and had to be assisted off the pitch by medics after receiving extensive treatment on the pitch during the game at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
