Leo Messi looks back on Argentina’s summer victory over Brazil in the Copa America.
Argentina drew 0-0 with Paraguay at Estadio Defensores del Chaco last night in a World Cup qualifier. This result leaves them in second place, eight points behind Brazil, leader, and three points behind Ecuador, third.
Messi left FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain this summer in a free transfer that rocked the foundations of European football. He has yet to score in Ligue 1 in three appearances, but he scored his first goal for his new club in spectacular fashion against Manchester City in the Champions League. His current mission, however, is to help Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Messi led Argentina to glory at the Copa América last summer, beating Brazil in the final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro – in the same stadium where they lost the 2014 World Cup final against Germany – to win Argentina’s first major title since 1993. It was an important moment for Messi.
Not to miss
“A lot of great things have happened this summer, starting with the Copa America victory,” Messi said in an interview with France Football. “I had some really amazing times with the national team, it was absolutely amazing to win this title. It’s something I’ve dreamed of for a long time, I fought to achieve it for years. We’ve come very close to that goal on several occasions, so finally achieving it – against Brazil and Brazil – was truly amazing. “
Argentina still haven’t lost in their World Cup qualifying campaign with five wins and four draws.
