Messi doesn’t make Barca a Champions League favorite

When Lionel Messi was asked to name this season’s Champions League favorites, the Argentinian left out Barca.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward has rhymed all the teams he believes have a chance of winning the elite European competition this season, not to mention his former side.

“Everyone thinks Paris Saint-Germain are going to win the Champions League, but there are other teams,” Messi told France Football.

“There are Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid who always do well, Bayern Munich and Inter. I don’t know if I have forgotten some.”

Speaking of his own team, PSG, Messi admitted that there are good players in the squad, but they need to blend in with the squad.

“We have great individual players, but we still have to get to know each other well to form a team,” Messi said.

“To win titles, it’s important to play as a team.

“This is what makes me say that we are a little behind compared to all these clubs which have more collective experience than us”.

Messi believes, however, that this current group of PSG players are capable of doing special things.

“The club have been working towards this goal for a few years now and recently they have come close,” added Messi.

“From a personal point of view, it’s the same. I would like to win the Champions League, as I said when I was in Barcelona.

“It’s a big competition, and very difficult to win, but I think this group of players have the tools to win this title.”
