From Copenhagen to Paris via Alpe d’Huez, the route of the Tour 2022 unveiled

The organizing company of the Tour de France, ASO, unveiled the route of the 2022 edition in Paris on Thursday. In the men, the peloton will have to resist a mountainous course while in the women the first edition will give pride of place to the east of France.

Weeks of speculation, clues and finally the revelation! The veil was lifted, Thursday, October 14, on the route of the Tour de France 2022, which will take place between July 1 and July 24.

The presentation of the Tour de France was preceded, for the first time, by that of the Tour de France Women, a highly anticipated creation, whose route was announced by Marion Rousse, newly appointed director of the event. The event will start on July 24 and will end 8 stages later on July 31.

♦ 1:05 p.m .: a final time trial for the road

The Tour will end with a time trial of around forty kilometers near Rocamadour. Finally, the last stage will be the traditional Champs-Elysées parade.

♦ 1 p.m .: triptych in the Pyrenees

After three flatter stages between Bourg-d’Oisans and Saint-Étienne, Saint-Étienne and Mende, then Rodez and Carcassone, as well as a day of rest, the runners will return to the mountains in the Pyrenees. On July 19, they will join Foix from Carcassonne, passing through the Port of Lers and then the Mur de Péguère, with 9.3 kilometers at 7.9%.

They will then continue with two arrivals at the top, at the Peyragudes altiport, where Romain Bardet had triumphed in 2017, then at Hautacam, at 1,520 meters above sea level.

♦ 12.55 p.m .: a very large alpine boulder

Galibier, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col du Télégraphe, Alpe d’Huez, Col du Granon… The Alps announce a generous menu for the peloton with the climbing of several passes which have made the legend of the Tour.

Note that the runners will discover the Col du Granon, more climbed since 1986 and the last yellow jersey of Bernard Hinault.

July 14, a national holiday, will be the great return of Alpe d’Huez and its 21 laces after four years of absence in the Grande Boucle.

♦ 12:50 p.m .: no jealousy between boys and girls

A few days before the girls, the riders will also bang their heads against the Super Planche des Belles filles at the end of stage 7.

♦ 12:45 p.m .: cobblestones on the menu

On stage 5, the riders will have to prove that they are comfortable on all surfaces since no less than 20 kilometers of cobblestones are on the program, with several new sectors for the Tour de France and even for Paris-Roubaix.

The Danish start of the Tour de France is likely to be lively. Between a 13 km prologue then stages with multiple risks of edges due to the wind, the leaders will have to be vigilant.

After two transition stages, the runners will rub shoulders with the Vosges for a final rich in difficulty. The penultimate stage will end at Markstein after passing through the Petit Ballon and the Grand Ballon.

The last one will take the peloton to the top of the Ballon d’Alsace, the first pass crossed by the Tour de France in 1905, before a finish judged at the top of the already legendary Planche des Belles filles in its “Super” version, that is to say extended by nearly two kilometers in a dirt road.

The Tour de France will continue with two stages which may create differences. The third between Reims and Epernay is designed for punchers with a final launching pad.

The next one between Troyes and Bar-Sur-Aube will contain white paths, enough to test the pilots’ talents of the riders.

“It will be an incredible stage. A stage of all the dangers”, says Marion Rousse.

A first stop on a circuit in the heart of Paris. The morning of the arrival of the men’s Tour de France to offer maximum visibility to the new stage.

The second stage which should be settled by a sprint will take place in Seine-et-Marne between Meaux and Provins.
