Villarreal legend Santi Cazorla has delivered his verdict on Xavi as a manager in turmoil over his return to Barca.
Xavi took over Al-Sadd in 2019, shortly before Cazorla arrived from Villarreal in 2020.
The former FC Barcelona midfielder has won seven titles at the helm of the Doha club and, amid increasing pressure on Ronald Koeman, he has been mentioned to take over at Camp Nou.
Xavi has long been seen as a candidate to take the helm of Barca in the future. He’s part of the Camp Nou golden generation and he’s virtually guaranteed to bring back the style of football the Culés see, whether successful or not.
Not to miss
Cazorla, who currently works under Xavi, confirmed this in glowing comments about her boss’s playstyle.
“He wants the ball and we are training on the basis of rondos, possession, positional play … pure Barca school, to defend with the ball,” the former Spain star told Marca.
“I think he understands football that way and plays it. He’s not unique, but maybe, having the ball, Xavi is unique.
“At La Roja, when we were teammates, he always had this football philosophy. It was very clear.”
It will be music to the ears of Barca fans dreaming of Xavi’s return to the club.
But for now, Koeman remains at Barca and doesn’t appear to want to leave, at least not yet.
