Opposed to Switzerland, Italy could have moved closer to qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, but Jorginho missed a penalty in the 90th minute!
European champion last July, theItaly struggles to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Already hooked twice in September in its qualifying group, the Nazionale was not brilliant collectively against Switzerland (1-1), Friday at the Olimpico, and has missed the opportunity to win in front of his runner-up (who is tied on points).
Gianluigi Donnarumma conceded the first goal of the match, scored by Silvan Widmer (11th), before a signed equalizer Giovanni DiLorenzo (36th). Roberto Mancini’s men, led by Lorenzo Insigne and Federic Chiesa, with Andrea Belotti in tip, then stammered their football. VAR gave the Italians a penalty as they approached extra time but Jorginho hit hard and missed the frame (90th)!
Leaders of their group, the Italians will play in Northern Ireland on Monday and will have to do as well as the Nati, which receives Bulgaria, on the last day. Only the first in the standings will qualify for Qatar, while the second will be part of the 12 teams in the play-offs (2 teams being drafted thanks to the League of Nations). Three Final Four will offer as many tickets for the World Cup.
🇮🇹 ITALY 1 – 1 SWITZERLAND🇨🇭
No winner in this match, even if Jorginho had the opportunity to give the victory to Italy in the 90th… but COMPLETELY unscrewed his penalty!
