PSG finally emerged victorious from their duel against RB Leipzig on the third day of the Champions League (3-2). The Parisian club consolidates its first place in group A and is approaching the round of 16.
Overturned then knocking down, Paris Saint-Germain did well at home against RB Leipzig. While Mbappé opened the scoring, the Parisian defense conceded two goals before a brace from Lionel Messi came to put the Parisian club back on the way to qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League (3-2) .
But, with a goal, an assist and a penalty caused, PSG can especially thank Kylian Mbappé a, who recalled how essential he was for his team.
His future may be emerging on the side of Real Madrid, which he could join this summer after the failure of negotiations on his contract extension expiring in June 2022. But today, “Kyky” is a Parisian, who does not let nothing show of his doubts about the future. He continues to write the legend of the 2021/22 season with the gluttony of a player who wants to win everything.
“When the team needs him, he appears”
Match after match, the Frenchman established himself as the most prominent striker of his team, ahead of Lionel Messi and Neymar.
“When the team needs him, he appears,” summed up coach Mauricio Pochettino on Friday, after the success against Angers (2-1).
Against the SCO, “Kyky” had multiplied, with a goal from the penalty spot and an assist, to compensate for the absence of his two acolytes of the “MNM”. Four days later, he donned his superhero costume again, when his teammates called for his help, in a tricky match.
With Messi, but without Neymar, injured in the adductors, the PSG has long flouted its football against the Germans who came to do battle on the ground.
It took all the realism, all the talent, all the speed of Mbappé to get his team out of trouble, led 2-1 at the hour mark.
His opening scoring (9th) brought together all the qualities of the Bondynois, never as strong as when he has the field to play his one-against-one. Alone in front of him, defender Willi Orban was sucked in by storm Mbappé, which tumbled the last 40 meters of Leipzig after a service from Julian Draxler, at the conclusion of a backlash.
This is his first Champions League goal of the season, and his fourth in his last four matches.
But the rest was more difficult for him. Despite several dribbles that delighted the public, as a tribute to Ronaldinho, guest of honor of the evening, the French did not have much to eat.
The difficulties encountered by the midfielders behind him, Ander Herrera and Idrissa Gueye, have dried up his supply channel.
His salvation came from a German player: the missed pass from Tyler Adams turned into an offering for Mbappé who, launched, served Messi for the 2-2 (67th).
This season, “Kyky” likes to play altruistic: he has achieved more assists (7) than goals (6)! He even deserves an additional “assist”, since he caused the penalty that Messi (73rd) transformed for the victory.
Once again, his speed allowed him to win his one-on-one and Mohamed Simakan, beaten, could only jostle him.
He could have achieved the double in added time (90th + 3) but his penalty, following a foul on Hakimi, flew over the crossbar.
