Salvador, Yemen, Brazil … The strangest votes of the Ballon d’Or

[ad_1]

The votes of the 180 journalists on the Ballon d’Or jury appear in the latest issue of France Football, which appears on Saturday. Like every year, some choices have something to challenge.

Kanté ahead of Bonucci for Estonia, a Salah-Benzema-Mahrez trio for Yemen, or even a Jorginho-Sterling duo for the journalist from El Salvador, who obviously liked Euro 2020 a lot. As every year, we find some beautiful nuggets in the votes of the 180 journalists members of the Ballon d’Or jury, the results of which appear in the latest issue of France Football, to be published on Saturday.

These votes, as well as those of the representatives of Kyrgyzstan or Uzbekistan, will maintain the “legend” of the Ballon d’Or, which would be awarded by journalists from the end of the world who would not see many matches. But this idea is somewhat undermined by the choices of journalists from what can be considered major football countries.

So no Lionel Messi in the Top 5 of the journalist from the Netherlands, nor in that of the Portuguese representative… who did not vote for either Cristiano Ronaldo (Kanté, Lewandowski, Mbappé, Jorginho and Salah, in order). And the journalist from Brazil does not place either of the two big favorites, Messi and Lewandowski, in his bulletin (De Bruyne, Jorginho, Mbappé, Lukaku and Neymar for the so-called Cléber Machado, from TV Globo).

The New Zealander still has it all!

The prize for the strange (or originality, it depends) can however be attributed to the journalist from Bhutan, who has none of the future members of the podium in his Top 5: Salah, Kanté, Haaland, Foden and Benzema. No Messi, no Lewandowski, and no more Jorginho …

However, we will congratulate those who “found” the right podium (Canada, Ethiopia, Wales, Honduras, Tajikistan …), or the right Top 4, with Karim Benzema, like the journalist from Peru. But special mention, above all, to journalists from Vietnam and New Zealand, who have the same Top 5 as the final ranking, in the correct order, with N’Golo Kanté to finish. It should be noted, however, that this is the second time in a row that New Zealander Gordon Watson, OFC TV, has achieved a “perfect” in his vote, since he also had the correct Top 5 in 2019 (Messi, Van Dijk, Ronaldo, Mané then Salah). We will have to ask him for his information for 2022 …
