Mediapro, the revelations of Canal +

Maxime Saada, the president of the management board of Canal +, made several revelations about the failure of the collaboration with Mediapro.

After withdrawing from the League 1, the Sino-Spanish group left the French clubs in agony. Heard in the National Assembly, this Thursday, as part of the parliamentary inquiry into the dissemination of TV rights, the first person in charge of the encrypted channel released his truths in this file.

« I meet Jaume Roures (president of Mediapro, editor’s note) several times, we discuss diagrams and he suggests that I create a chain together, said Maxime Saada. (…) On each side, at Canal and Mediapro, for a year, we work on the creation of a channel broadcast by Canal and produced by Mediapro. Negotiations were blocked by the amount demanded by Mediapro. They were asking for between € 474 million and € 662 million. (…) Basically, Roures wanted us to pay the billion wanted by the LFP and take advantage of subscribers’ financial income.. »

“The LFP subsidized the arrival of Amazon”

Regarding the attribution of Ligue 1 TV rights to Amazon, the boss of Canal + will say: ” Today, the LFP’s choice to turn to Amazon is counter-intuitive. We limit exposure and this lack of visibility is worrying… Look at French basketball which suffered from this lack of visibility, its value has fallen. We were especially discriminated against compared to Amazon, which pays up to 700,000 € per game while we are at more than 3.5 million euros. The LFP subsidized the arrival of Amazon on the Franco-French market. »
