Napoli striker Victor Osimhen spoke about how Ivorian legend Didier Drogba, and his fellow Nigerians inspired him.
The Super Eagles striker is enjoying his best Serie A start to the season since arriving from Lille in the summer of 2020.
So far he has scored nine club and national goals this season, and he explained his inspiration and what it feels like to play in one of the best leagues in the world.
“It feels good, it all started as a dream, a childhood dream of the slum,” Osimhen said during a discussion with his international teammate William Troost-Ekong on the latter’s YouTube channel.
Not to miss
“I just wanted to become a professional player, inspired by many legends like Didier Drogba, Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi and the others.
“And I feel like, to be able to achieve this feat, it’s one of my greatest accomplishments in life and I’m truly grateful to God for it.”
The 22-year-old was the target of Nigeria’s 2-0 victory in the Central African Republic last weekend, after Chidozie Awaziem served Leon Balogun for the opener.
This result allowed Nigeria to retain first place in Group C with nine points from four matches.
Cape Verde is second with seven points, while CAR is third with four points. Liberia has three points.
Osimhen will now turn to Serie A where leaders Napoli host Torino at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium on Sunday.
