PSG, overwhelming statistics

Forced to a draw by Leipzig (2-2), PSG suffered again in Germany, the vice-champions of France struggling to contain the offensives of their hosts.

The matches follow each other and look alike for the PSG in the Champions League. If he can harbor regrets given the equalizer conceded in additional time, the draw reduced by Leipzig (2-2), Wednesday, is a lesser evil in view of the catastrophic start of the match for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. Leads from the outset following the goal of Christopher Nkunku, the Parisians then conceded a penalty, fortunately stopped by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

But the vice-champions of France were taking water from all sides and the difficulties of the capital club were not unlike those experienced in Bruges or during the first round played against Leipzig. The statistics are also edifying. According to RMC Sport, PSG have conceded no less than six shots on target per game since the start of the competition. Only four teams do worse among the 32 clubs involved: Brugge, Besiktas, Sheriff Tiraspol and Malmö. Teams that do not box in the same category as the Rouge et Bleu.

By way of comparison, Chelsea conceded less than one shot on target per game (0.75) and Bayern Munich and Juventus Turin followed with respectively 1.75 and 2 shots on target per game. Another figure which is at the very least worrying for PSG, that of the famous ‘expected goals’, or the goals that the Red and Blue should have conceded. According to the calculations of the algorithm, the Parisians should indeed have conceded 2.14 goals per game. In the end, the capital club only conceded five goals instead of the expected 9, but the statistics are problematic. This time, only six teams are doing worse than the vice-champions in this area.
