Four months after the publication of a list of 100 prodigies under the age of 21, we know the 20 finalists for the election of the Golden Boy 2021. A jury will now appoint the successor of Erling Haaland.
Who will succeed Erling Haaland to the prestigious Golden Boy award? Tuttosport, the Turin-based media which has been organizing this trophy for the best youngster under 21 since 2003 (with Rafael van der Vaart as the first winner), had given 100 names last June and the votes of Internet users made it possible to establish a list of 20 finalists (now submitted to a jury of 40 European journalists).
We thus find the favorite Pedri, the middle of Barça and the Spanish selection, or even cracks like the English Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Mason Greenwood, the Germans Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Karim Adeyemi or the Brazilian from Real Madrid Rodrygo, the Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch or the Belgian Charles De Ketelaere.
Two French finalists
The French international Eduardo Camavinga should have a nice final place, while William Saliba is the other French player in the 20 (they were 15 in the 100, notably Rayan Cherki in the 40). The Portuguese side of PSG Nuno mendes is named, unlike Belgian winger Jérémy Doku and Dutch Monaco striker Myron Boadu.
Note that a parallel vote is open to Internet users, on the Tuttosport website, and that Erling Haaland was beaten by Ansu Fati last year!
The 20 finalists: Karim Adeyemi (Salzbourg), Jude Bellingham (Dortmund), Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid), Charles De Ketelaere (Club Bruges), Gavi (FC Barcelone), Bryan Gil (Tottenham), Ryan Gravenberch (Ajax), Mason Greenwood (Manchester United) ), Daniel Maldini (AC Milan), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Nuno Mendes (PSG), Pedri (FC Barcelone), Roberto Piccoli (Atalanta), Yeremi Pino (Villareal), Giovanni Reyna (Borussia Dortmund), Rodrygo (Real Madrid), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), William Saliba (OM), Jurriën Timber (Ajax), Florian Wirtz (Leverkusen).
